Suspect claims ‘evil voices’ told him to stab two people to death at a Florida apartment complex
A murder suspect has claimed “evil voices” told him to stab two people to death at a Florida apartment complex, according to authorities. Gregory DaSilva, 26, was arrested Tuesday, hours after police say he fatally stabbed two men at the complex in Lauderhill. The men were identified by officials as Mesilien Pierre, 36, and Wilford White, 68, according to NBC 6 South Florida. Authorities were led to the stabbings after a third man approached an officer in the area, claiming someone tried to stab him, according to an arrest report obtained by the local outlet. Shortly after police set up a perimeter around the area, a passerby called 911 to report that a man was lying on the ground, appearing to have been stabbed. During their search, police found a second man who appeared to have been stabbed inside an apartment. The two go off-camera but appear to head into an apartment. NBC 6 doesn’t clarify the name of the victim in the wheelchair, but CBS News Miami said he, who neighbors fondly called “Hotwheels,” was Willford White. The man believed to be DaSilva was allegedly captured on video minutes later, approaching the second victim, Mesilien Pierre, NBC 6 reported without naming Pierre. Pierre was sitting on an electrical box when the suspect made a sweeping or stabbing motion toward him with an unknown object, according to the arrest report. The suspect allegedly told the officer, “It was me.” After DaSilva was taken into custody, he told police about the weapon in the backpack he was carrying, according to the report. An officer then opened the backpack and allegedly found a knife and clothing that both appeared to be bloodied. When the suspect was taken to a local hospital, he told a doctor he was “hearing evil voices to murder someone,” according to the report. It’s unclear whether DaSilva had a relationship with the victims. DaSilva faces two counts of premeditated murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. "Really depressing right now," White’s neighbor, only identified as Stennett, told CBS News Miami. "He always checked on me and he's a really good guy.”
