Russia Successfully Test-Launches Sarmat Nuclear Missile — Putin Says Range Exceeds 35,000 km

MOSCOW — Russia successfully test-launched its Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile on May 12, with President Vladimir Putin overseeing the event, according to Russian space agency chief Sergey Karakayev.

Karakayev said the first regiment equipped with Sarmat missiles will become operational by the end of 2026.

The intercontinental ballistic missile can strike any target on Earth and is being immediately deployed to the Russian military. The Sarmat has a range exceeding 35,000 kilometers and is capable of suborbital flight that can penetrate all existing air defense systems.
